Which Cleanser is the Right One for Me?
The starting point of every routine, cleansers come in all shapes and sizes. From a gentle wash to moisture-rich lotions, there’s a cleanser for every occasion. But how do you figure out which cleanser is the right one for you?
The first step is identifying how your skin feels and looks. There are 3 main skin types, including, oily, dry and normal. However, your skin isn’t static, and will change and combine skin types depending on things like your diet, hormonal factors and your environment.
Skin Types
Oily & Acne Prone
Your skin is shiny and has a residue. You often have spots and suffer from breakouts, and enlarged pores are the bane of your life.
Dry
Your skin is tight, dehydrated and could be flaky. Looking dull and lifeless is your main concern.
Combination
Exactly what it sounds like – a combination of oily and normal or dry. Usually your T-zone (forehead, nose and sometimes chin) is oily, with your cheeks being normal/dry.
Normal
Your skin is the dream – no signs of flaking or oiliness!
Sensitive
If everything you seem to use on your skin leaves it stinging or red, then you have sensitive skin.
Types of Cleansers
Low Foam
If you like to lather, then a low foaming cleanser is the one for you. Perfect for removing makeup and everyday dirt and build-up, a low foam will leave your skin clear and soft. Ideal for normal or combination skin.
Shop: Environ Low Foam Cleansing Gel
Gel
Lightweight and great at cutting through oil, a gel cleanser is another one that generally works up into a lather, making them easy to wash off. Perfect combination, oily and breakout prone skin.
Shop: Sebu-Wash Gel Cleanser
Creams & lotions
Offering a soothing experience, creams and lotion based cleansers moisturise the skin, making them ideal for normal, dry and sensitive skin.
Shop: Mild Cleansing Lotion & Hydra-Intense Cleansing Lotion
Oils
Perfect as the first step for a double cleanse, oil-based cleansers will leave your skin feeling clean, but soft and smooth. Suitable for all skin types.
Shop: Dual Action Pre-Cleansing Oil
Wipes
Wipes can be convenient, but we wouldn’t recommend them for every day. Not only are they drying, but they’re not good for the environment. If you’re committed to your skin being the best it can be, we say ditch the wipes and make time for a proper cleanse.
Shop: Cleanse Off Mitt
Soap
Soap can leave your skin dry, tight and clogged. Do not use!
How to Cleanse
A double cleanse in the evening is the best possible option to ensure that your skin is clean and ready for your night-time routine.
Step 1 – Assess your skin. Have you got a sore breakout that needs some TLC, or perhaps the day has left you dry? Make sure you’re using a cleanser that suites your skin in that moment.
Step 2 – Remove Make Up
The first step is designed to take make up off and get rid of the day’s pollution that has built-up on your face. We like Environ’s Dual Action Pre-Cleansing Oil or the Cleanse Off Mitt to effectively remove the bulk of it.
Step 3 – Deep cleanse
Give your skin some care with a second cleanse. Massage your face to stimulate blood flow, using small circles over your whole face. Try to cleanse for at least one minute.
